2020 Year in Review for my Mobile Apps, Alexa Skills, and Software Development

Happy New Year folks! 2020 was a doozy for many people including myself. Regardless of how it went for you I hope you came out of it better than you were. Outside of app development there were definitely some hiccups throughout the year that pulled me down, but I persevered and continued to pull myself up. Unfortunately, some of the issues that happened outside of app creation led me to be less productive with my app creation, but I used some of that time to think, research, & progress which was helpful. This was the year I was planning to start my separate app company outside of 8-Bit Avrin Apps and have at least one app released under it. I also planned to be much further along in development for a new financial education app within 8-Bit Avrin Apps that I’ve been working on. Well neither of those came into fruition. I’m further along in creation of the financial education app but not near where I want to be in progress of it.

In 2020 I did have some other productive moments in mobile app land though. I did some more promotions for some of my apps via Instagram ads and tweaking YouTube metadata. I made a couple of updates to Quiz of the Christian Bible app to improve performance and clarity in a couple of questions and answers. (I’m currently working on another update to continue those improvements.) I did run into some issues with Google Play Android updates that I’m also currently working through with some of my apps so if you downloaded Quiz of the Christian Bible on the Google Play please be patient with me while I work out those issues. Saving Bunnies and Zompy Jumpy are two apps that were previously available on Google Play but aren’t anymore. However, I’m working on updating those so that there’s no archived architecture in them so that they can become available again.

In 2020 I also created a Reviews section on the website highlighting many of the great reviews I’ve received from users of my mobile apps and Alexa skills. Major thank you to everyone that’s left a nice review on my software! Thank you also to those that left just a star rating, but only thanks to the people that left 4 & 5 star ratings though, and maybe some of the 3 stars as well haha. I know how important it can be for customers to consume reviews in products before they spend their time and/or money obtaining the product so I wanted to showcase my reviews more instead of only having them available to see on the app store that they were left on. Most people are going to only see them there, but now website visitors can also readily access many of them if they’d like.

One of the great things that happened in 2020 is that my mobile app download and Alexa skill enable numbers increased over 2019! Check below for my top 5 downloaded apps, top 5 countries that downloaded my apps, and my top 5 Alexa skills that were enabled in 2020.

Top Downloaded App and Top Enabled Skill of 2020

Major thank you to everyone who downloaded any of my mobile apps in 2020 and those who enabled any of my Alexa skills in 2020. I hope you enjoyed them and continue to find them useful. The separate app company that I was thinking about creating is still on the table and I’m still pondering of whether or not to go forward with it. In the past couple of years I started new projects and increased my time in other projects outside of app creation that have been successful that I plan to continue with. So with those projects going on my time has become even more limited. Regardless of all that 8-Bit Avrin Apps is definitely going to continue. I’ll be continuing to support my current apps and work on new apps under the 8-Bit Avrin Apps umbrella. In 2021 I’m hoping to get near completion of my new financial education app and brainstorm ideas for my next apps. I’ve got a lot of ideas but I have to be really certain of proceeding with them because I want to minimize wasted time. In 2021 I also plan on continuing promoting my existing apps and keeping this website and my YouTube up to date. I hope you all have an amazing 2021! Take care!
